In Almaty, the building of a former hotel owned by Kairat Satybaldyuly and donated by him to the city has been put up for auction, reports infohub.kz.
The Department of State Property and Privatization of Almaty has posted an announcement on the electronic trading portal for the sale of the former hotel complex building located at 115 Dosmukhamedov Street, Almaly District. The starting price of the lot is 12,759,410,000 tenge. The auction is scheduled for 10:00 on September 25. Sale of the object to a single bidder is allowed.
Earlier, the Department of State Property and Privatization reported that in August 2023, based on a gift agreement, the hotel was transferred to state revenue. In September of the same year, it was transferred to the balance of the Department of Judicial Administration.
There was information online about the possible demolition of the building, but the city akimat, in response to a request from NUR.KZ correspondent, said that the former hotel is not being demolished. At the same time, it was reported that after the completion of the project, the building along with the land plot is planned to be transferred to the municipal state institution "Department of Digitalization of Almaty". The akimat's response stated: "In the future, the object will be used for the implementation of state programs in the field of digitalization and development of artificial intelligence, as well as for hosting residents working in IT, AI, creative industries, and other related areas."
Recall that in September 2022, the court found Satybaldyuly guilty of embezzlement and sentenced him to six years in prison to be served in a medium-security facility. Later, he was denied parole.
A new trial in the case of Satybaldyuly began in Astana on April 1, 2024. At the hearing, the defendant's property in Russia, the UAE, France, and Kazakhstan was discussed. Later, it became known that Satybaldyuly was given time to return real estate and luxury cars to the state. Prosecutor Nurmakhanov reported that Satybaldyuly's side agreed to return criminal assets to the state.
The Anti-Corruption Service stated that they plan to return another 50 billion tenge in the case of Kairat Satybaldyuly. In August 2024, the Anti-Corruption Service reported what exactly Satybaldyuly returned to the state. Later, the Prosecutor General's Office reported that property worth another 50 billion tenge would be returned to the state.
