A former head of the state revenue department in the Karasu district of the Kostanay region, Ayazbek Kulnazarov, has been sentenced for attempted large-scale fraud committed by an official using his position, reports infohub.kz.
According to the investigation, in March 2026, the official informed the head of a farming enterprise about alleged discrepancies in tax reporting amounting to 18 million tenge. He then offered to resolve the issue for 7 million tenge to the farmer's son.
The man contacted the National Security Committee (KNB) department for the Kostanay region. As a result, Kulnazarov was detained near the district akimat building after receiving 5 million tenge.
The investigation revealed that no tax discrepancies actually existed. In court, the former tax chief fully admitted his guilt and asked not to be imprisoned but to be fined.
Given that the crime falls into the category of serious corruption offenses, the court sentenced him to 2 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison, with a lifetime ban from holding positions in public service. The convict was taken into custody in the courtroom. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
