Four people, including two employees of the Department for Emergency Situations (DES), died in a tragic road accident on the Semey-Kurchatov highway in the Abai region, reports infohub.kz.
According to the DES of the Abai region, at about 3:30 p.m. on August 26, 2026, the department received a report of the accident. Four people died as a result, including two DES employees of the region.
The department's press service expressed condolences: "The staff and leadership of the department extend their sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, their relatives and friends. This is a heavy tragedy and an irreparable loss. The department is providing and will continue to provide all necessary assistance and support to the families of the deceased employees."
Currently, the DES of the Abai region has launched an internal investigation into the incident. Based on its results, an objective assessment will be given to the actions of officials.
It should be recalled that at the 35th kilometer of the Semey-Kurchatov highway, two cars collided: a Chevrolet Nexia and a Kia Rio. According to preliminary police data, the driver of the Chevrolet Nexia, while overtaking a GAZelle, drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided head-on with the Kia Rio. The moment of the accident was captured on video.
As a result of the collision, drivers and passengers of both vehicles died at the scene. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated.
