A rare optical phenomenon—a circular rainbow resembling a portal to another dimension—has been captured beneath the world's tallest bridge in China. The unusual footage was shot by a drone in the Huajiang Canyon in Guizhou Province, reports infohub.kz.
The video shows a nearly perfect glowing rainbow ring formed by sunlight and fine water droplets sprayed by a special system on the bridge. From a certain angle, the rainbow looks almost unreal: it completely encircles the space under the bridge against the dark canyon walls. Social media users note that the scene looks like a portal to another dimension.
In reality, rainbows are always circular, but from the ground we usually see only the upper half because the Earth's surface blocks the lower part. That's why we typically see rainbows as arcs. However, this time the full circle was captured by a drone flying high above the mist, allowing the lower part of the rainbow to be included in the frame.
Seeing a complete rainbow like this is extremely rare, as it requires the right angle and great height. The bridge over Huajiang Canyon is also notable: it towers 625 meters above the Beipan River—nearly nine times higher than the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Construction took three years, with the bridge spanning 2,890 meters in length and a main span of 1,420 meters.
