Kazakhstan's capital has successfully conducted another heart transplant from a deceased donor. Thanks to the consent of the donor's family and the coordinated work of specialists, a patient who had been on the waiting list for a long time was given a new lease on life, reports infohub.kz.
In Astana, another donation process took place, resulting in a successful heart transplant for a patient in urgent need of an organ.
According to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the potential donor was identified between July 14 and 15 at the Multidisciplinary Medical Center of the Akimat of Astana.
"After obtaining the consent of the donor's family, the Republican Center for Coordination of Transplantation and High-Tech Medical Services of the Ministry of Health organized all necessary measures related to the donation process," the ministry said.
The UMC transplant team took part in the operation. "Specialists successfully performed a heart transplant on a patient born in 1966, who had been on the transplant waiting list for a long time," the ministry reported.
The recipient's condition is consistent with the postoperative period, and the patient is under medical supervision, according to the ministry.
The Ministry of Health expressed sincere gratitude to the donor's family, who consented to posthumous donation, thereby giving a person a chance to continue living. It also thanked specialists from the Republican Center for Coordination of Transplantation and High-Tech Medical Services, doctors at the donor hospital, the UMC transplant team, air ambulance staff, and all medical workers who ensured the donation process.
According to the Ministry of Health, 4,739 people in Kazakhstan are currently waiting for life-saving organ transplants, including 125 children. The most in-demand organ is the kidney, with 4,208 patients waiting. Liver transplants are needed by 293 people, heart transplants by 208, lung transplants by 30, and heart-lung transplants by another five patients.
The ministry emphasizes that each consent to posthumous donation can save several lives, as for many patients, transplantation remains the only effective treatment. The ministry continues systematic work to develop the transplant service, improve the donor coordination system, and raise public awareness about the importance of organ donation. These measures aim to increase the number of patients saved and further develop high-tech medical care in Kazakhstan.
