The police department of the Almaty region has confirmed the statement of Nelly Mikheeva, who claimed that the human remains found in the mountains belong to her father, reports infohub.kz.
The press service of the regional police department said that an investigation is underway into the discovery of a body on the Severtsev glacier in the Talgar district mountains.
"During the investigation, the identity of the deceased was established. He was a resident of Almaty who had been listed as missing. According to available data, the man had been wanted for 19 years. Presumably, due to the melting of the glacier, the body surfaced and was discovered," police said.
According to the police department, necessary measures are currently being taken to establish all circumstances of the incident and the cause of death. Following the investigation, a corresponding procedural decision will be made in accordance with current legislation.
Recall that a week ago, it became known that a group of tourists from Belarus discovered human remains and tourist equipment on the Severtsev glacier in the Talgar district of the Almaty region. Later, Kazakhstani Nelly Mikheeva posted stories on Instagram, in which she said that the remains found in the mountains of the Almaty region belonged to her father.
"Today is a tragic but at the same time joyful day for our family. After 19 years, my father's remains were found. The Severtsev glacier melted, and tourists from Belarus - huge thanks to them for not passing by, for finding the remains and my father's backpack," the woman said.
According to Mikheeva, an identity card in her father's name was also found in the backpack.
