In the game, Indiana's Makayla Timpson scored a career-high 20 points, including the team's first three field goals in overtime. Atlanta's Allisha Gray matched her career high with 32 points, but it wasn't enough to avoid the loss.
Kelsey Mitchell's layup with 13.6 seconds remaining in overtime gave her 20 points, extending her streak of scoring at least 20 points to 19 consecutive games. Caitlin Clark finished with 26 points and 9 assists, including two free throws in the final seconds that sealed the win for Indiana.
In regulation, Mitchell's three-pointer tied the game at 81-81. Atlanta missed three shots on its final possession, sending the game to overtime. Indiana's Sophie Cunningham, celebrating her 30th birthday, gave her team a 78-77 lead with a basket and free throw.
Before the game, Atlanta coach Karl Smesko announced that point guard Jordin Canada would not play due to illness. Jaylen Sherrod made her first career start in her third WNBA season. Additionally, Brionna Jones missed the game with a left leg injury. Smesko said there is no timetable for her return.
Atlanta trailed 36-27 in the second period before Angel Reese (15 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists) sparked a comeback. Atlanta used a 17-4 run to lead 44-40 at halftime. Mitchell scored only five points in the first half but became more active in the second, picking up her third foul midway through the third period.
