Dozens of steppe fires have swept across the Karaganda region: eight hotspots were extinguished in the past 24 hours, while five more fires are still being fought, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, rescuers managed to eliminate eight wildfires in the Karkaraly, Bukhar-Zhyrau, Nurinsky, and Osakarovsky districts and the city of Karaganda. Preliminary data indicate that the fire has covered 200 hectares of land.
Work is currently ongoing to extinguish fires involving dry grass and shrubs in the mountain-steppe terrain of the Shet, Bukhar-Zhyrau, and Karkaraly districts.
"Firefighting is complicated by the hard-to-reach mountain-steppe terrain, the ongoing hot weather, and strong gusty winds, which have repeatedly changed the direction of the fire's spread. More than 400 personnel and over 100 units of equipment from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, local executive bodies, and forestry enterprises are involved in extinguishing the fires," the agency noted.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations added that the operational headquarters is working around the clock. Constant monitoring of the fire situation and coordination of forces and resources are being carried out.
