The tragedy occurred last week in Omsk, where a large fire at a construction site killed two people, one of whom turned out to be a citizen of Kazakhstan. The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, reports infohub.kz.
According to RBC, citing the press service of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry for the Omsk region, a fire broke out on August 15 in a multi-story building under construction on Sharonova Street in Omsk. The fire started on the first floor, where construction materials caught fire, and then quickly spread to the upper floors.
According to TASS, eight people were injured in the incident. All of them suffered burns of varying severity — from 20 to 90 percent of the body surface — and were hospitalized in intensive care in serious condition. Today, the agency reported that the fire claimed the lives of two people. One of the deceased is a citizen of Kazakhstan born in 2002, who was in the hospital with burns covering 70 percent of his body.
A NUR.KZ correspondent contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan for comment. The department confirmed that the Kazakh citizen died as a result of the fire in Omsk on August 18.
The press service of the Kazakh MFA added: "The Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Omsk is providing all necessary consular and legal assistance, including help with paperwork and interaction with Russian competent authorities regarding the circumstances of the citizen's death."
The ministry also noted that they are in contact with the family of the deceased and are providing necessary assistance within their competence.
