At a government meeting, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov demanded that the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs report on how the country is tackling drivers who create loud noise on the roads at night, the website infohub.kz reports.
"What work is being done with drivers of cars and motorcycles who create loud noise, especially at night? We have discussed this repeatedly: tougher measures must be taken, because at night they disturb people," Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov said.
Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov responded that police work around the clock. According to him, digital solutions provide significant help — offenders are identified with the aid of cameras. In addition, the public itself is taking action: citizens report such incidents to 102 by phone.
The minister cited statistics: since the start of the year, 782 such cases have been registered. All offenders were held administratively liable, and 55 of them were arrested. The cars and motorcycles of offenders are also placed in impound lots.
In response to the report, the prime minister said such offenders "should not be fined, they must be arrested."
