A resident of the Akmola region fell victim to online fraudsters, went into debt, and lost over 10 million tenge, reports infohub.kz.

According to the regional police department, the woman believed promises of high investment returns. She registered on the fake investment platform FIBO Markets LTD and began following instructions from fake consultants.

"From May to July, the woman took out two loans, borrowed money from acquaintances, and invested her own savings. In total, she transferred over 10.2 million tenge to the fraudsters," police said.

It took the woman a month to realize she had been deceived, after which she contacted the police.

Investigations into the activities of fake platforms show that fraudsters often disguise themselves as well-known brokers, use counterfeit websites, and post positive reviews to create an appearance of reliability. After depositing money, users frequently encounter additional fees and are unable to withdraw their funds.

Law enforcement urges Kazakh citizens not to transfer money to unknown investment platforms and not to trust promises of guaranteed high returns.

Earlier, "Kursiv" reported that in Kazakhstan, scammers have devised a new scheme: they first allow victims to withdraw a small amount of supposedly earned profit, then convince them to invest significantly more.

It was also previously reported that fraudsters are increasingly calling Kazakh citizens, posing as utility workers.
