Artificial intelligence has been introduced in Kazakhstan to assign conscripts to types and branches of the armed forces, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the Ministry of Defense, AI has been integrated into the work of the republic's draft commissions, helping to recommend the most optimal assignment for compulsory military service.
"Based on the conscript's anthropometric data and level of education, the system generates recommendations for the most optimal assignment to serve in the relevant types and branches of the armed forces," the defense ministry said.
The tool is available to draft commissions at all levels and helps improve the objectivity and efficiency of conscript distribution, the ministry noted.
"Another significant result of digitalization has been the transition to an electronic format for the procedure of exempting citizens from compulsory military service on health grounds. Automation has reduced the time required for the necessary procedures and improved the speed of decision-making. In addition, the process of exempting citizens called up for compulsory military service from paying contributions for mandatory social health insurance for the entire period of service has been automated," the Ministry of Defense added.
The ministry also clarified that automation does not eliminate the need for conscripts to report in person to assembly points. Under the law, a decision to call up a citizen for compulsory military service is made only by a draft commission based on the results of a medical examination, which cannot be conducted online.
