According to a National Bank report, Kazakh banks posted a combined profit of 160 billion tenge in June 2026. The top five most profitable institutions stayed the same, but their net profit decreased markedly. One of the largest banks ended the month with a loss, reports infohub.kz.
Compared with a strong May, when banks earned 239.8 billion tenge, the June figure was 33% lower. Profit also declined by a similar margin year-on-year. Major players significantly cut their earnings from the previous month, and some registered declines on an annual basis as well.
Halyk Bank's profit dropped 26.7% month-on-month but increased by 4 billion tenge year-on-year. Kaspi Bank lost 20% of its profit in a month, and was down 13.5 billion tenge compared with June 2025.
Otbasy Bank, which was third in May, lost its spot after profit slumped 40% from May. At the same time, its annual profit doubled. ForteBank, in contrast, was only down 1.6 billion tenge from May, but its annual profit plunged 1.8 times.
The top five by net profit in June 2026 were: Halyk Bank – 65.3 billion tenge (463.6 billion tenge year-to-date); Kaspi Bank – 35 billion tenge (226.8 billion tenge); Bank CenterCredit – 18.6 billion tenge (106.5 billion tenge); Otbasy Bank – 17.5 billion tenge (86 billion tenge); ForteBank – 14.2 billion tenge (69 billion tenge).
Citibank Kazakhstan unexpectedly took sixth place. The branch of the U.S. financial corporation, which serves large businesses, earned 10.4 billion tenge, increasing profit from May. Home Credit Bank followed with 8 billion tenge in June and 22.4 billion tenge since the start of the year. Bank RBK ranked eighth, earning 5 billion tenge in a month (28 billion tenge year-to-date). ICBC Almaty and Bank of China Kazakhstan round out the top ten.
Meanwhile, Alatau City Bank, which is sixth by total assets, ended June with a loss of 38.85 billion tenge. Its accumulated profit since the start of the year shrank to 4.5 billion tenge. This is likely due to the bank returning state aid.
It is worth noting that June profit was the lowest since the start of the year. In the first half, aggregate profit fell by 183 billion tenge from the same period last year, to 1.2 trillion tenge.
