Over the past month, Kazakhstan's border guards detained nearly five thousand violators and prevented the illegal export of more than 150 tons of fuel and lubricants, reports infohub.kz.
The Border Service of the National Security Committee (KNB) reported the results of its work for the month. In total, 4,975 violators of legislation in the border area were detained, of which 4,346 were foreigners.
Officers prevented 2,476 cases of illegal movement of goods and cargo across the border worth over 3.9 billion tenge. These include: 39 cases related to narcotic substances; 88 cases related to weapons and ammunition (108 units of cold steel and 2,131 units of ammunition were seized); 1,808 cases of illegal movement of fuel and lubricants totaling over 150 tons worth 33.4 million tenge; 392 cases of movement of consumer goods worth over 1.3 billion tenge; and 149 cases of illegal currency trafficking worth over 2.1 billion tenge.
In addition, 34 cases of poaching were suppressed in the Caspian Sea area. A total of 24.6 km of fishing gear and 103 sturgeon specimens weighing 580 kg were seized. The prevented damage is estimated at over 251 million tenge.
Based on the identified violations, 63 criminal cases have been initiated, and investigative measures are underway. Also, 4,295 administrative cases are in progress, with fines totaling over 38 million tenge imposed. The remaining materials have been sent to law enforcement and judicial bodies for procedural decisions.
Earlier it was reported that another batch of contraband fuel was attempted to be taken out of Kazakhstan - thousands of liters of gasoline and diesel were intended to be transported across the border with Kostanay region.
