Kazakhstan has officially designated areas where gambling establishments are permitted, with access restricted for citizens in some of them, according to infohub.kz.

Under a government resolution, casinos, slot machine halls, bookmakers, and totalizators may be located on the coast of the Kapshagai Reservoir in the Almaty Region, as well as in the Burabay district of the Akmola Region.

Additionally, a list of territories has been approved where casinos and slot machine halls will be accessible only to foreign citizens, stateless persons, gambling establishment employees, and individuals present there for work or official duties. This list includes the Talgar and Uygur districts of the Almaty Region, the Caspian Sea coast in the Mangystau Region, the coast of Lake Alakol and the Panfilov district of the Zhetysu Region, the Markakol district and the Zaisan district of the East Kazakhstan Region, the Bayterek district of the West Kazakhstan Region, and the coast of Lake Alakol in the Abai Region.

The resolution comes into force on September 11, 2026.

Earlier, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed amendments to legislation on tourism and children's sports, which also introduced changes to the gambling law.
