The National Bank of Kazakhstan has conducted an unusual experiment: specialists laundered banknotes in denominations from 1 to 10,000 tenge to test their durability, reports 24KZ.
Banknotes are tested under different temperatures and humidity levels. Long-term use is also simulated—as if the money had passed through thousands of hands. Afterward, the condition of the paper, the preservation of security features, flexibility, and resistance to wear are assessed.
The central bank noted that such tests help introduce new technologies and produce banknotes that retain quality and security features longer.
