Kazakhstan has reported interim results of solid fuel deliveries ahead of the upcoming autumn-winter period. From May 1 to August 17, 2026, 19 million tons of coal were transported by rail across the country, fully matching the figures for the same period last year, according to infohub.kz.
Of this volume, 17.8 million tons were directed to thermal power plants (TPPs), and another 1.2 million tons were shipped for the municipal and household sector.
Currently, all regions of the country have built up the necessary fuel reserves: TPPs have accumulated 4.1 million tons of coal, and the municipal and household sector has a reserve of over 300,000 tons.
To prevent disruptions during cold weather, coal transportation is under special round-the-clock control. A special operational headquarters operates in the country, monitoring shipments from open-pit mines 24/7, coordinating the supply of railcars, and planning cargo flows across the entire railway network.
To reduce delivery times, route and nodal shipments are being organized together with cargo shippers. Transportation is provided by Kaztemirtrans JSC, which has a fleet of 29,000 gondola cars. The ministry assured that the available rolling stock is fully sufficient to cover all needs of TPPs, the municipal sector, and industrial enterprises.
