Kazakhstan plans to extend mobile coverage to more than 40,000 km of national and regional roads. To achieve this, over 500 antenna-mast structures and base stations will be built along the highways, according to infohub.kz.
The project's progress was discussed at a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Jaslan Madiyev. Representatives of Transtelecom JSC and mobile operators took part in the discussion.
Participants reviewed the current status of telecommunications infrastructure construction, as well as issues of shared use of the facilities being built by the investor and telecom operators.
Special attention was given to ensuring stable radio coverage on highways and coordinating work among project participants.
Mobile coverage of national highways is planned to be completed by the end of 2026, and of regional roads by the end of 2027.
The project is financed by Transtelecom JSC. No budget funds are planned to be attracted for its implementation.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that the Ministry of Digital Development and Transtelecom JSC agreed to provide internet coverage to national and regional highways in Kazakhstan. To this end, they planned to identify areas without stable coverage — the so-called "white spots" — and build the necessary telecommunications infrastructure.
