The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Indonesia has announced an open auction for the sale of an official vehicle, with a starting price far below typical market rates in Kazakhstan: a Toyota Fortuner SUV is listed at just $3,569.24, or 1.6 million tenge, according to infohub.kz.
The auction lot is a black 2012 Toyota Fortuner (VIN: MHFZX69G0C7043744). Bidding will follow an ascending-price method, with a bid increment of 5% of the current offer.
To participate in the auction, which will be held on October 2, 2026, in Jakarta, bidders must submit a guarantee deposit of 15% of the starting price — $535.39. Applications will be accepted until October 1 inclusive.
The extremely low starting price is directly due to the strict terms of sale and the legal status of the property. The vehicle is sold "as is," and the buyer cannot demand repairs.
The winning bidder must pay the full amount within 10 business days and assume all associated financial obligations. VAT, customs duties, taxes, and fees for re-registering diplomatic plates will be borne entirely by the new owner. Any form of bid rigging is prohibited, and if the buyer refuses to sign the contract, the guarantee deposit is forfeited.
On Kazakhstan's secondary car market, the price of a 2012 Toyota Fortuner typically ranges from 8 to 11 million tenge. Thus, the embassy car's starting price in Indonesia appears anomalously low compared to Kazakh realities.
Such a price gap is standard for the sale of diplomatic property abroad. Vehicles are sold without accounting for the host country's import duties, and legalization of the vehicle falls to the buyer, offsetting the apparent benefit of the initial price.
