The first data center under the Data Center Valley project, which Kazakhstan is developing jointly with NVIDIA and Firebird AI, is planned to be commissioned in June 2027. This was announced at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov by the head of Kazakhtelecom, Bagdat Musin, as reported by infohub.kz.

According to him, construction of the first facility with a capacity of 50 MW is already underway. Currently, 90% of the work on excavating pits for energy centers and AI factories has been completed. On the site, they have begun laying foundations for energy centers and continue to build administrative and amenity buildings.

By the end of December 2026, contractors must erect the main buildings of the data center and power units, the administrative and amenity complex, checkpoints, and part of the external utility networks. Commissioning works are planned to be completed in May 2027.

“Our primary task is to complete the construction of the first facility in June 2027. At the same time, we are creating an engineering foundation that allows for the sequential expansion of the campus capacity in line with confirmed customer demand,” said Musin.

To power the project, a 215 MW substation has already been purchased. A water supply network design has also been developed, and the design of telecommunications infrastructure is ongoing. The construction site is equipped with a 24/7 online video surveillance system. In the future, the capacity of Data Center Valley is planned to be gradually increased to 1 GW.

The project involves creating a platform for hosting data centers, AI factories, GPU clusters, and cloud platforms for international technology companies. The government believes this will create a new export sector for the digital economy in Kazakhstan and provide infrastructure for developing domestic AI solutions.

“Data Center Valley is shaping Kazakhstan's new export potential. By placing computing power within the country, we are creating conditions for the development of domestic AI solutions, attracting global companies, and enabling Kazakhstan to enter the international digital services market,” noted Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiev.

As part of Data Center Valley, Kazakhstan is also developing cooperation with Firebird AI and NVIDIA. Earlier, in April 2026, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with NVIDIA's Vice President for Global AI Infrastructure Development, Nicolo Martin Caprezza, and Firebird AI co-founders Razmig Berg Ovakimyan and Alexander Yesayan. During the meeting, they discussed prospects for joint work on designing, building, and operating AI infrastructure.

During the meeting, the head of state outlined plans to create Data Center Valley in Ekibastuz as a site with affordable electricity, telecommunications, and tax incentives for investors. Following the talks, the parties agreed to explore opportunities for joint activities in developing the AI ecosystem.

Additionally, the meeting with the Prime Minister reviewed the preparation of the Cloud First Policy (Data Embassy) project, which would allow Kazakhstan to host data from foreign countries while preserving their full legal sovereignty.

Following the meeting, Bektenov instructed government agencies and quasi-state companies to ensure construction work is completed on schedule and to continue efforts to attract foreign technology partners.
