In the Abai region, police detained a 22-year-old resident of Uralsk suspected of a series of frauds involving the rental of nonexistent apartments. The young man posted advertisements on popular internet platforms offering daily apartment rentals, reports the website infohub.kz.
According to the regional police department, the suspect asked potential tenants to transfer an advance payment and a deposit, after which he stopped communicating. When the victims arrived at the specified addresses, it turned out that the apartments had never been available for rent.
During operational and investigative measures, law enforcement officers identified the suspect. He turned out to be a 22-year-old resident of Uralsk. In footage released by the police, the young man is seen sitting on a bench, then being brought down to the ground and detained. He is currently held in a temporary detention facility.
As part of the pre-trial investigation, the detainee's involvement in more than 40 fraud cases has been established. The preliminary amount of damage caused to victims exceeds 750,000 tenge.
A pre-trial investigation is being conducted into the fraud cases. Police are identifying other possible victims.
