Kazakhstan expects to harvest around 23 million tonnes of grain in 2026. The figure will fall short of last year's record but exceed the long-term average, the Ministry of Agriculture said, according to infohub.kz.
Deputy Agriculture Minister Nazgul Khatepova said the country had averaged about 18–19 million tonnes of grain a year. This season's results are expected to be higher.
"This year we forecast above the long-term average — if we take the average harvest over the past 10, 5 or 15 years, we see that we collected on average around 18–19 million tonnes of grain. This year we expect the volume to be higher, though of course it will be lower than last year," the deputy minister said at a government briefing.
To date, farmers have harvested about 20 million tonnes of grain. The harvest campaign is roughly 83% complete.
The Ministry of Agriculture expects the total harvest to reach 23 million tonnes once harvesting is finished.
"The past two years were record years — 27.5 million tonnes in initial weight. And overall, if we have already harvested around 20 million tonnes today, which is 83%, we expect to collect around 23 million tonnes of grain this year," Khatepova added.
Meanwhile, Kazhydromet has warned that difficult weather conditions are expected in Kazakhstan's main grain-growing regions during the harvest period.
