Kazakhstan has for the first time allocated residency grants through a digital platform. The Ministry of Health has announced the results of the educational grant competition for the 2026-2027 academic year, reports infohub.kz.

For the first time, the selection of 2,500 future resident physicians was conducted entirely in an automated mode via the "Digital Residency Platform." In total, over 12,500 applications were submitted, of which more than 8,500 were admitted to the competition for 2,500 educational grants.

As a result, 2,384 grants were distributed. For the remaining 116 unallocated grants, an additional competition will be announced on August 27-28, with results to be announced on August 29.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, the state order was formed for 57 residency specialties. In particular, 231 places are allocated for obstetrics and gynecology, 148 for anesthesiology and intensive care, 140 for general surgery, 122 for therapy, 113 for pediatrics, 111 for oncology, 102 for cardiology, 86 for radiology, 84 for neurology, and 75 for neonatology.

The largest number of state grants was distributed among the republic's medical universities, such as Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University - 517 grants, Astana Medical University - 332, Semey Medical University - 297, West Kazakhstan Marat Ospanov Medical University - 290, and Karaganda Medical University - 212.

In addition, from August 12 to 17, applications were accepted for the competition for akimat grants. In total, in 2026, 18 regions (excluding Turkistan region and Shymkent city) allocated 900 grants.

Simultaneously, applications for paid education are being accepted. Documents can be submitted until August 25 for 1,337 places. Results will be published on August 27.
