Kim Kardashian has dropped her attempt to collect $167,000 in legal fees from New York resident Ivan Cantu, who had sued her over an Instagram photo mix-up, according to infohub.kz.
The dispute began in February 2024, when the reality star posted a message in support of a Texas death row inmate also named Ivan Cantu. However, her team mistakenly attached a photo of his exact namesake — a law-abiding manager from New York — to the post.
The post was quickly removed, and Kardashian issued a public apology. Nonetheless, the New York Ivan Cantu filed a lawsuit against her, accusing her of defamation and infliction of emotional distress.
In November 2025, a Los Angeles court dismissed the case entirely, citing free speech protections and a lack of evidence of actual harm. Following that victory, the TV personality's lawyers initially demanded $145,000 from the plaintiff to cover their legal expenses.
Such a sum could have been a serious financial burden for an ordinary person. In the end, Kardashian decided to withdraw all financial claims and not pursue the funds, effectively freeing the man from a six-figure debt and finally closing the litigation.
