In the North Kazakhstan region, a man released from prison after serving a 25-year sentence has been brought to trial again for attacking a woman. The incident occurred near Petropavlovsk, according to the website infohub.kz.
According to case materials, on June 19, 2026, the man stopped a female cyclist, claiming he was looking for a missing cow. He then grabbed her by the neck, threw her to the ground, and, threatening her with a knife, demanded she go with him into the forest. The attack was interrupted by a passerby, allowing the woman to escape.
The defendant's guilt was confirmed by the victim's testimony, witnesses, and written evidence. The man himself did not admit guilt, and his defense lawyer insisted on acquittal. The state prosecutor requested nine years in prison, and the court agreed, sentencing him to nine years in a maximum-security correctional facility.
Previously, the man had been convicted of robbery, rape with threats of murder, and violent sexual acts against a minor. In 1999, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison, which he served in full and was released on January 12, 2024.
The new sentence has not yet entered into legal force.
