A man has been detained in Almaty on suspicion of raping his mother-in-law, reports infohub.kz.

According to the city police department's press service, the suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility. The incident occurred during the day when the son-in-law visited the 63-year-old woman under the pretext of having tea. Taking advantage of her helpless state, he committed sexual assault.

The victim filed a police report the same day. However, as reported by the public foundation "Do Not Be Silent," the police initially failed to issue a proper order for the forensic examination. The morgue, where the woman was sent for a forensic medical assessment, rejected the order due to incorrect paperwork. As a result, the examination was not conducted for three days.

The Almaty police department stated that a criminal case has been opened by the Auezov district police department. The suspect has been detained and is in a temporary detention facility. His actions will be given a principled and objective legal assessment. If found guilty, he will face punishment in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
