Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has again commented on the country's potential choice between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union (EU), stating that society should not confine itself to rigid frameworks, reports infohub.kz.
As reported by News.am, at a briefing Pashinyan emphasized that the EAEU and the EU are equally important to Armenia until the authorities formulate clear alternatives and citizens can make an informed choice. According to him, Armenian society should not limit itself solely to a choice between the two integration blocs.
"The people must have the opportunity to make a choice, but the emergence of a third initiative that has nothing to do with either the EAEU or the EU is not ruled out, because no one has said that we must necessarily be part of something," the Armenian Prime Minister noted.
As TASS writes, Pashinyan also stated that a referendum on EU membership would be organized only after preparatory work and the submission of a formal application to join the bloc. "We point to these two, but there may be another initiative: neither the EAEU nor the EU. There may be a third option. We want to create alternatives for Armenian citizens so that the people choose for themselves, but today we do not stop thinking about a fourth alternative, a fifth alternative, because there should not be a situation where someone declares that Armenia is needed by no one and has nowhere to go," Pashinyan added.
Earlier, Nikol Pashinyan said that simultaneous membership of the country in the EAEU and the EU would be impossible.
