In Petropavlovsk, the Zarechny district, which suffers from flooding every spring, may be completely closed. Residents have already started to be relocated, reports infohub.kz.

According to the TV channel, one of the residents of the Zarechny district who received the keys to a new apartment was 72-year-old Evgenia Shelutkova. The pensioner has lived in this area for more than 30 years, but she is very happy about the move.

"It's such a nerve-wracking experience, you worry in advance about what the water will be like, how it will flood. Of course, we wait for this spring very nervously, we worry. Now, like everyone else, this won't affect us. Now it will be great, we will live in peace," said Petropavlovsk resident Evgenia Shelutkova.

A second multi-storey building has already been built for the residents of Zarechny. The first, with 90 apartments, was commissioned last year. Now 72 more families will move in.

"We had a flood in 2017, and in 2024 too, and every year we worried, looked with anxiety, met spring, because it is such a terrible flood. We have experienced so many unpleasant moments. Now we won't have to worry, we won't have to think about bad things," shared Petropavlovsk resident Uazipa Uvaisova.

There are 266 families living in the Zarechny district. Just over 10 of them refused to relocate. The relocation is carried out in stages. According to officials, construction of another new house will begin here in the near future.

"Those private houses that will be relocated, the barracks, we will demolish them. As for the three-story buildings, we will hold them for about a year, maybe two at most. After that, we will only demolish them. In the meantime, we provide these houses to people in dire need of housing. We provide them temporarily so that they can save up some money. But overall, I think we will gradually vacate the settlement," explained Petropavlovsk akim Serik Mukhamediyev.

Zarechny is located on the outskirts of the city, along the Ishim River. In addition to social facilities, there is also a correctional institution here. In the future, the colony is also planned to be moved to another location.
