By order of the head of state, Lake Kobeytuz, known for its pink hue, will be granted the status of a specially protected natural area. To achieve this, the boundaries of the Buyratau State National Natural Park will be expanded to include the lake's water area, according to infohub.kz.
Authorities in the Akmola region also plan to improve the coastal zone. They intend to equip an observation deck and a parking lot so that visitors can observe the natural phenomenon without harming the fragile ecosystem.
The regional administration emphasizes that Kobeytuz has already become one of the symbols of the region and attracts thousands of tourists annually. However, preserving the lake in its pristine condition is possible only with strict adherence to environmental standards and well-organized visits.
A previous study revealed that the maximum permissible concentrations of several substances, including ammonium nitrogen, ammonia, chlorides, arsenic, and sulfates, have been exceeded. Therefore, swimming in the lake and collecting salt from its shores are strictly prohibited.
During the improvement works, access to the lake will be restricted: approaching the shoreline and staying in the adjacent area will be forbidden. Round-the-clock posts will be set up at the entrances, and the police and authorized bodies will ensure control over the territory.
The regional administration calls on residents and tourists to comply with environmental requirements and treat the unique site with care. The measures to protect and improve Kobeytuz are part of the goals of the environmental initiative 'Taza Kazakhstan' and the policy to expand the network of specially protected areas.
