In connection with the work of the Agency for Financial Monitoring to curb the theft of funds in the compulsory medical insurance sector, cases of fraud have become more frequent, reports infohub.kz.
Fraudsters pose as Agency employees and, citing alleged violations, threaten heads of medical institutions with criminal prosecution. They demand money, promising not to bring them to justice in exchange for a reward.
A similar fraud scheme was stopped in the Turkestan region. Two individuals, posing as Agency employees, attempted to defraud the head of a medical organization of 15 million tenge. After receiving 5 million tenge, the fraudsters demanded the remaining 10 million tenge.
On August 8, they were caught red-handed by employees of the Department of Economic Investigations of the Turkestan region together with the Agency's Internal Security Department. The court ordered their detention. The investigation is ongoing.
The AFM warns: any demands for money accompanied by threats of prosecution or promises to avoid punishment are illegal. Such facts should be immediately reported to the AFM Call Center at 1458.
Citizens are summoned to financial monitoring bodies only within the framework of ongoing pre-trial investigations on the basis of official summonses issued and sent in accordance with the law. We urge citizens to be vigilant and not to fall for provocation or tricks of fraudsters.
