In Almaty, a seven-year-old boy was stung by a scorpion. The incident occurred while playing in the yard, reports infohub.kz.
According to the child's mother on social media, her son was stung on the pad of his thumb. The family immediately sought medical help by calling an ambulance. At the Children's Infectious Disease Hospital on Manasa Street, doctors said they had no antidote or specific vaccine and suggested hospitalization for observation in the intensive care unit. However, the boy, afraid to stay in the hospital alone, was left under parental supervision at home. The mother said the finger swelled, and the temperature rose once but normalized on its own.
The Almaty Public Health Department confirmed the incident. The child was brought to the emergency department of the Center for Pediatric Emergency Care. Upon examination, doctors noted pain, moderate swelling, redness of the finger, general weakness, and a temperature of 37.1 degrees Celsius. After consultation with a resuscitator and a surgeon, hospitalization in the intensive care unit was recommended due to the toxic effect of scorpion venom. The diagnosis was toxic effect of scorpion venom, condition of moderate severity.
However, the parents, as legal representatives, refused hospitalization and took the child home against medical advice. Medics warned of possible consequences and risk of complications, recommending immediate medical attention if the condition worsens.
The department noted that this is the first scorpion sting case registered at the Almaty Center for Pediatric Emergency Care since the beginning of the summer period of 2026.
