A man in Semey will stand trial for murdering his wife after she told him she intended to divorce him, reports infohub.kz.

The 52-year-old woman was killed a few days after telling her husband she wanted a divorce. Relatives of the victim said the man burned her personal belongings and the documents of their shared children.

He then ambushed his wife and struck her about 28 times with a baseball bat. She died at the scene from her injuries. Relatives noted that the man had abused alcohol for years, beaten his wife, and began stalking her after she decided to leave. After the murder, the suspect fled but was soon apprehended and taken into custody.

The police department of the Abai region confirmed that the criminal investigation has been completed. The case has been sent to court, and the trial is set to begin on July 29.

Earlier, it was reported that the trial continues in Shymkent in the murder case of 22-year-old Nurai Serikbai. On the defendant's bench is Sherkhan Aymakhan, who is charged with stalking and coercion into marriage.
