Senator Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has accused the FBI of attempting to conceal evidence of potential corruption involving former President Joe Biden and his family, according to infohub.kz.
According to The New York Post, Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, has demanded that the Department of Justice and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declassify numerous documents that he claims were "improperly classified" to "downplay" the extent of alleged wrongdoing by the Biden family.
In a letter, Grassley and Senator Ron Johnson, a Republican from Wisconsin, stated that documents obtained by Grassley's office indicate that the FBI "improperly classified" information to hinder Congress's investigation into the bureau's operation that collected compromising information on Joe and Hunter Biden ahead of the 2020 election.
"To date, the documents we have obtained raise serious concerns about how federal law enforcement and the intelligence community used their resources to downplay allegations of criminality related to the Biden family, apparently without adequate investigation," Grassley and Johnson wrote.
Grassley's office has also received other documents suggesting that the team may have operated under a so-called special access program, the results of which were classified.
The FBI has not yet responded to the senator's statements and letters.
