A bet of 200,000 tenge led to dangerous street races through Shymkent and the subsequent detention of participants, infohub.kz reports.

During social media monitoring, police officers discovered a video showing young men engaging in impromptu races. According to the Shymkent Police Department, the drivers grossly violated traffic rules: they drove into oncoming traffic, performed dangerous maneuvers, created emergency situations, and endangered other road users. They filmed the entire event for online publication.

An investigation revealed that one of the participants did not have a driver’s license. The reckless drive was motivated by a wager, police said. “It turned out that the reason for the dangerous trip was a bet of 200,000 tenge. Wanting to win the bet and capture spectacular footage, the young men turned city streets into an improvised race track,” the Shymkent Police Department stated.

All violators were held administratively liable for gross traffic violations. Additionally, two of them were sentenced to 7 days of administrative arrest for petty hooliganism.
