Military police have launched a search for a conscript soldier who went AWOL from a military unit in Ust-Kamenogorsk on the morning of July 23, reports Orda.kz.
“On July 23, 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Private Markhan A.E., born March 31, 2004, while serving as a duty orderly, left his post without authorization,” the military police department of the Ust-Kamenogorsk garrison said in a statement.
The soldier did not have any weapons. He is believed to have left in uniform but may have changed into civilian clothes later.

Military police and interior ministry officers are searching for the soldier. People with information about his whereabouts are urged to call the hotlines.
This is not the first escape from a military unit. Earlier, an armed soldier fled a unit in Atyrau.
