Sony and Amazon MGM have launched development of a Spider-Man television series titled 'Clone War,' according to infohub.kz.
As reported by Gizmodo, the project is a new addition to the Marvel universe. The studios are preparing a live-action series based on the well-known comic book storyline 'Clone Saga.'
The story will center on two popular characters: Ben Reilly, also known as the Scarlet Spider, and Kaine. In the graphic novels, both are clones of Peter Parker created through scientific experiments, but they choose different paths.
Kelvin Yu is attached as writer. The project's title and casting details have not yet been revealed. It is also unknown whether Peter Parker himself will appear in the show.
Sony has previously faced restrictions on using the name of Spider-Man's main villain or Spider-Man himself in television spin-offs, which could lead to changes in the clones' original origin.
The series will be the latest step in expanding Sony and Prime Video's shared television universe. The companies recently completed work on the show 'Spider-Noir' starring Nicolas Cage. The new project promises to add more dark action and reflections on the search for identity to the lineup.
