A man in Astana has been sentenced for unlawfully stalking his former partner over several months, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Astana prosecutor's office, the city resident spent four months calling the woman, sending messages, visiting her residence, waiting outside her home, and insulting her. This occurred despite a protective order. As a result, the victim lived in constant fear for herself and her underage daughter, and her rights to personal safety and freedom of communication were violated.
The state prosecutor proved the defendant's guilt. The court sentenced him to 100 hours of community service. The verdict has entered into legal force, the prosecutor's office said.
The Astana prosecutor's office reminds that stalking—unlawful pursuit of a person, involving actions aimed at establishing contact and/or tracking a person against their will, not involving violence, and causing significant harm—carries criminal liability up to 50 days of arrest.
