A voluntary ban on obtaining loans can protect Kazakhstanis from fraudsters, but in some cases it won't work — for example, with refinancing. This is reported by infohub.kz.

The service "Voluntary refusal to obtain bank loans and microcredits," also called "Stop Credit," has been available to residents of Kazakhstan for several years. With its help, you can free of charge restrict the possibility of taking out loans in your name. If the service is enabled, no bank or microfinance organization (MFO) has the right to issue new loans to the client.

However, "Stop Credit" has exceptions. According to the Telegram channel ZANGER | PRG, some types of loans can still be obtained even with an active ban.

For bank loans, "Stop Credit" does not apply to: payment for goods, work, or services directly to the seller (commodity credit); internal refinancing at the same bank; use of a credit limit on a payment card up to 150 MRP (648,750 tenge in 2026) for payment of goods and services; payment of taxes, fines, and debt under enforcement proceedings.

For microcredits, similar exceptions apply: payment for goods and services directly to the seller, refinancing at the same microfinance organization (MFO), as well as repayment of taxes, fines, and debt under enforcement proceedings. At the same time, the ban does not apply to loans issued by pawnshops.

In all other cases, banks and MFOs will not be able to issue a loan. If for some reason this happens, by law they will have to write off the debt, since the error was made on their part.

We also remind you that the voluntary loan refusal service does not cancel previously issued loans — they will have to be repaid as before. New credits are prohibited, but if desired, the service can be disabled at any moment by submitting a new application.
