Police in the Kazakh capital have arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of stealing six laptops from a company office. According to preliminary data, the suspect may have been suffering from a gambling addiction, reports infohub.kz.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspect got a job as a manager at an organization specializing in advertising for driving schools and client acquisition. Having gained the trust of management, he secretly took laptops from the workplace over the course of a week. The damage from each stolen device exceeded 250,000 tenge.
The stolen equipment was pawned, and the proceeds were spent on personal needs. During operational-search measures, the suspect was detained in one of the city's hotels. He fully confessed to his guilt.
Police noted that, according to preliminary data, the detainee had a gambling addiction. The stolen laptops have been seized, and efforts are underway to return them to their legal owners. A criminal case has been opened, and a pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
