A double murder occurred in Karaganda, claiming the lives of the chairman of a garden cooperative and a local woman. A 56-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of committing the crime, reports infohub.kz.
The tragedy unfolded on the evening of September 6, around 7 p.m., at the exit of the garden cooperative "Optimist." The bodies of a 43-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman with gunshot wounds were found there. The deceased man was identified as Ivan Korovin, the chairman of the cooperative, who had assumed the post at the beginning of the gardening season. The woman was returning home from her dacha when the attack occurred.
According to KTK TV channel, the detained man had previously headed the same horticultural partnership. It is believed that he first shot his successor and then killed the woman, who may have been an accidental witness. After the crime, the suspect attempted to flee, but police tracked him down using surveillance cameras.
"He has given a confession. The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility," said Bakytzhan Kudiyarov, official representative of the Karaganda Regional Police Department.
A criminal case has been opened into the double murder. Investigative actions are ongoing, and the official motive for the crime has not yet been disclosed.
Opinions among gardeners about the deceased chairman are divided. Some describe Korovin as a responsible leader who oversaw pipe repairs and the improvement of the territory.
"He maintained order. We often had pipe bursts, and they replaced the pipes. He was good; I have nothing bad to say," said gardener Vladimir Edukov.
Other residents claim that after the change of leadership, problems with water and other utilities arose in the community. Some of them doubt the guilt of the detained man.
The conflict between the former and new chairmen lasted about three years. The men repeatedly argued and sued each other, with one of the main points of disagreement being the position of head of the garden cooperative. However, investigators have not officially confirmed that this conflict was the motive for the murder.
