New details have emerged in the death of a man who, according to investigators, was kidnapped and brutally beaten in the Zhambyl region. Authorities have charged a suspect and are investigating possible links, reports infohub.kz.
The press service of the Zhambyl Regional Police Department said a pre-trial investigation is underway on two charges under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan: "Kidnapping" and "Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in the victim's death by negligence."
"The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility. We are working to establish whether other individuals were involved. Necessary investigative actions are being carried out to fully, thoroughly, and objectively determine the circumstances of the case. The investigation is under special control of the leadership of the Zhambyl Regional Police Department," the department stated.
Earlier, the victim's sister said her brother worked at a hospital. According to her, the ex-husband of one of his patients began calling the man with insults and eventually summoned him to a meeting. There, she claims, three men hit her brother on the head and forced him into the trunk of a car. The victim was then taken to the Asa River, where he was severely beaten. Afterward, the injured man was placed in his own car and brought to a hospital, where they claimed they had found him on the street. The man died without regaining consciousness.
The sister also said police initially detained three suspects but later released two. The Zhambyl Regional Police Department confirmed the investigation is ongoing.
