Currency swings continue in Kazakhstan: after weakening late last week, the tenge sharply strengthened during exchange trading on Monday, with the dollar losing nearly 4 tenge, reports infohub.kz.
Recall that last week ended with the national currency weakening: on August 7, the weighted average dollar rate was 469.93 tenge, up 2 tenge. However, by August 10, according to the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), the situation reversed: the dollar lost 3.6 tenge, and its weighted average rate fell to 466.08 tenge.
At exchange offices in the country's major cities as of 15:30, the following buy and sell rates for cash dollars were set: in Astana, buying at 464 tenge, selling from 471 to 474 tenge; in Almaty, buying from 461.3 to 467.3 tenge, selling from 467.4 to 470 tenge; in Shymkent, buying from 465.5 to 466.5 tenge, selling from 467.5 to 469 tenge.
The euro also weakened, down 3.24 tenge for the day, with the rate falling to 538.02 tenge. At exchange offices, the euro rates are as follows: Astana — buying at 531 tenge, selling at 541 tenge; Almaty — buying from 531 to 538 tenge, selling from 539.8 to 546 tenge; Shymkent — buying from 533 to 539 tenge, selling from 541 to 545 tenge.
