President of Kazakhstan Qasym-Jomart Toqaev said the country must build a digital economy, and acknowledged that real digitalization is often replaced by formal events. The head of state made the remarks in a speech, infohub.kz reports.

"Kazakhstan must — must — create a digital economy. As realists who correctly assess our capabilities, we must use all the best that new technologies can offer for the well-being of our people," the President of Kazakhstan said.

According to him, construction of the core infrastructure for the comprehensive Digital Qazaqstan strategy is already under way. "Two supercomputers have been launched, and a third powerful supercomputer will be commissioned by the end of the year. Laying of a fiber-optic backbone along the bottom of the Caspian Sea has been completed, and data centers are being built. And this is only a small part of the work on the country's digital transformation. We are at the beginning of a long road leading to a new technological order," the head of state said.

Toqaev stressed that keeping pace with the times requires focusing on achieving practical results. "But we must admit that so far we have more words than deeds, and real digitalization is sometimes replaced by the automation of existing processes or by holding various kinds of events. Digitalization must not boil down to purchasing expensive software products without understanding their practical benefits," the President of Kazakhstan said.
