In Kazakhstan, the number of deaths and injuries from road accidents decreased in the first half of 2026, but more than half of the crashes were caused by repeat traffic offenders, according to the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, 15,188 road accidents were recorded in the first six months of 2026. More than half of them were committed by chronic traffic violators.
The agency noted a positive trend: the number of people injured in road accidents dropped by 6% (from 22,346 to 21,007), while fatalities fell by 15.5% (from 955 to 807). This helped save the lives of 148 people.
The most severe consequences, the Prosecutor General's Office said, were linked to speeding and dangerous maneuvering. These violations caused injuries to over 8,000 people and the deaths of 676 individuals.
Since the beginning of the year, 5,971 people were injured at pedestrian crossings, and 208 people died, including 40 children. Additionally, intoxicated drivers injured 209 people and killed eight others.
The supervisory authority also reported that since the start of the year, 29 traffic hooligans have been arrested under Article 434 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
