U.S. President Donald Trump said he wants Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to end the war. The American leader made the comment after a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart in Washington, reports Clash Report, as noted by infohub.kz.
"I would like him to finish the war. It's very simple," Trump said.
According to the U.S. president, he maintains good relations with both Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. "I get along with both of them. I told them: 'End the war,'" the American leader added.
German publication Bild reported that Volodymyr Zelensky has become Donald Trump's new "favorite." Journalists noted a noticeable warming in relations between the U.S. and Ukrainian leaders after their tense meeting at the White House in 2025. During the latest meeting, Trump spoke about Zelensky in a more favorable tone.
Trump and Zelensky met in Washington on July 28. The sides discussed resuming negotiations with Russia, strengthening Ukraine's air defense, and the possibility of producing Patriot interceptor missiles in Ukraine.
After the meeting, Zelensky said the talks were held in a "good format." According to him, one of the main topics was Ukraine's air defense and further cooperation between Washington and Kyiv. "We also talked about diplomacy — it is important to resume the diplomatic process. I am grateful to the United States for their strong support," Zelensky wrote.
Earlier, Trump repeatedly stated that he expects a swift resolution to the conflict and is in talks with both the Ukrainian and Russian sides.
