Two families were discharged on the same day from the Turkistan Regional Clinical Hospital after successful transplant surgeries. In one family, a son donated part of his liver to his mother, while in another, a mother gave a kidney to her child, reports infohub.kz.
According to the regional health department, two organ transplant operations were performed in the region. In the first family, a 20-year-old son became a donor for his mother, giving her part of his liver and a chance at a new life. In the second family, a mother gave one of her kidneys to her son, essentially giving him a second chance at life.
Both operations were successful, the department said. The complex liver transplant was performed with the participation of a team of highly qualified specialists led by Professor Bolatbek Baimakhanov, head of the A.N. Syzganov National Scientific Center of Surgery.
The patients have been discharged and are under the supervision of local doctors. The health department emphasized that this experience demonstrates not only the high professionalism of domestic doctors but also the selflessness of relatives in their desire to save the lives of their loved ones.
Earlier, it became known that over 172,000 Kazakhstanis have officially registered their position on posthumous donation via eGov. In particular, 156,100 citizens registered a refusal, while only 16,100 gave consent.
Previously, it was reported that in Astana, doctors at the UMC center performed a heart transplant on a 60-year-old patient. The donor organ was delivered and transplanted within hours after the consent of the deceased's family.
