The United Arab Emirates has handed over three Kazakh citizens who were on the international wanted list to Kazakhstan, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported, according to infohub.kz.
The supervisory authority said a delegation from the Kazakh Prosecutor General's Office, led by Deputy Prosecutor General Askhat Zhumagali, took part in the 15th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in the United Arab Emirates. During the visit, meetings were held with the UAE Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General to discuss strengthening cooperation in combating crime and extraditing wanted individuals.
"As part of the implementation of these agreements, the Prosecutor General's Office, together with the Anti-Corruption Service of the National Security Committee and Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the assistance of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the UAE, extradited three Kazakh citizens from that country to face criminal charges," the office said.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, one of the extradited individuals, together with an accomplice in 2019–2020, promised assistance in obtaining a land plot for the construction of an international center in Astana and fraudulently seized funds from a victim totaling $368,000.
Another suspect was wanted for intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, robbery, and hooliganism. According to the supervisory authority, in 2021 in Almaty he took part in a group attack on a victim, causing grievous bodily harm, and openly stole personal property worth more than 100,000 tenge.
The third is suspected of stealing $24,200 from a Chinese citizen in Astana this summer, which constitutes a particularly large amount.
It is noted that after committing the crimes, they fled from the criminal prosecution authorities and were placed on the international wanted list.
"They were subsequently located in the UAE, from where they were extradited to their homeland at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Currently, all suspects have been placed in a pre-trial detention center, and pre-trial investigations against them have been resumed," the supervisory authority said.
