A woman has been convicted in Uralsk in a multi-count fraud case that caused victims losses exceeding 158 million tenge, the website infohub.kz reports.
The press service of the West Kazakhstan Regional Court said the Uralsk City Court found the defendant guilty of a series of frauds under Article 190, Part 4, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code.
According to the established circumstances, between 2024 and 2025, the defendant, posing as an employee of various banks, gained people's trust. Under the pretext of helping with mortgage loans, subsidized housing purchases, auto business, and attracting investments into her sole proprietorship with promises of high interest profits, she received money from victims.
To create the appearance of successful activity, the defendant initially paid amounts with interest by attracting funds from new participants, after which she embezzled large sums. In total, 26 episodes of criminal activity were established in the case, and the damage exceeded 158 million tenge.
At the court hearing, the defendant fully admitted guilt, confirmed the circumstances set out in the charge, and expressed remorse. As mitigating circumstances, the woman asked the court to consider that she has a minor child in her care and her health condition.
By the court's verdict, she was found guilty under Article 190, Part 4, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 6 years and 8 months of imprisonment to be served in a medium-security penal institution. Under Article 74, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, due to the convicted woman having a child under 14 years of age, the execution of the prison sentence was deferred for 4 years.
The previously imposed preventive measure of detention was revoked, and the convicted woman was released from custody in the courtroom. Control over her behavior was assigned to the probation service of Uralsk.
The claims of most victims for compensation of material damage were satisfied in full or partially for a total of more than 100 million tenge. Civil claims of two victims were left without consideration due to full voluntary compensation of the damage. Claims for compensation of moral harm were left unsatisfied.
The verdict has not entered into legal force and may be appealed within 15 days from the moment of its pronouncement.
