US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States is launching the "largest financial onslaught" against Iran starting today, reports infohub.kz.
According to Bessent, President Donald Trump has dismantled Iran's military capabilities, destroying nearly 100 percent of its military factories and burying its nuclear program. "Now we are entering the final stage. At dawn, the economic 'D-Day' begins — the largest financial offensive ever organized against an adversary," he stressed.
The Treasury chief noted that the Islamic Republic existed by passing off extortion as security guarantees. It drew strength from the calculation that Iranian retaliation was inevitable and US coercive measures were a matter of negotiation. "Under President Trump, that era is over. And those who fear the danger of confronting Tehran should not underestimate the cost of testing Washington," Bessent added.
He also stated that the president has created conditions for using all agencies, all authorities, and actions that many assumed would never be employed. "Our goal is to cut off all economic channels that support the tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone," the minister concluded.
