After a driver of a Chinese luxury SUV was stranded in Kazakhstan due to an activated security system, Zeekr has introduced new measures, reports infohub.kz.
Last week, an incident involving a Zeekr 9X owner sparked widespread discussion in China. The driver of the SUV, valued at approximately $73,500, claimed that several vehicle functions—including navigation, trunk release, and the electronic fuel cap—were locked for over 30 hours. The lockout activated upon entering Kazakhstan on July 16. Zeekr explained at the time that the built-in protection mechanism was triggered because the vehicle was abroad.
Later, according to Carnewschina.com, Zeekr introduced a password generator feature in its companion app, allowing users to create their own unlock codes after a cross-border lockout. Additionally, in an upcoming OTA update, Zeekr promises to add a toggle in the app to disable the cross-border lock. After the update is rolled out, the lock will be turned off by default, the company said.
